Alef (アレフ, Arefu^?) is a playable Mage in Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention and its remake.

Background

Having foreseen Darksol's plot, when you first meet her, she and Torasu have been holding back the Runefaust army at the Tower of the Ancients. They are happy to see reinforcements and join you to continue the fight.

Personality

Alef is a spirited and kind young foxling. She teams up with Torasu to go with Max to defeat Darksol. She specializes in Spark-type spells, which are said to be the most difficult spells for a mage to use.

Alef's main purpose is to act as a late-game mage. She is very powerful and has the most magic of all 3 mages. Bolt level 2 is very useful for the first four battles after acquiring Alef, and with efficient use of the spell, she will gain experience points very rapidly. She overall does the highest amount of damage spread of all Force members as she can hit large numbers doing the same damage to each potentially thanks to the Bolt spells.

She has the highest MP amount of all mages.

Her stats suffer because of the focus on high MP usage. She will not take hits very well compared to Anri or Tao due to lower HP and defence.

Despite having 4 spells, the only useful spell she has is the Bolt series. Blaze 2 and Freeze 2 are inferior to Bolt 2, 3, and 4. Desoul is very risky to use and will likely not work. While Bolt is awesome, it requires a lot of MP to use and her MP growth is not enough to cover rapid use. You would need to equip her with the cursed Demon Rod to increase usage of her spells.

Due to her spells' reach, range and damage, Alef easily will steal XP from other Force members if she damages or kills large amounts of enemy forces. It does not matter if she kills 3 enemies or 15; she will get the same amount of maximum XP. When using her, players must apply some restraint.
