Aura (a-ra in Japanese) is a healing spell used in the Shining Force games.

Aura is a defensive healing spell cast during battles in the Shinging Force games. Each level has a different effect as the spell gets stronger:

  • Level 1 - 1 fairy flies around and heal the target(s)
  • Level 2 - 2 fairies fly around and heal the target(s)
  • Level 3 - 2 fairies fly around and heal the target(s)
  • Level 4 - 3 fairies fly around and heal the target(s)

When the spell is cast the upper and lower black areas flash white and a fairy or fairies will appear over the target's head to heal their HP.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

This spell recovers the same amount of HP as Heal, but targets multiple allies in exchange for costing more MP. The one exception is Aura Level 4 in Shining Force II: Ancient Sealing, which fully restores HP and has a radius covering the entire battlefield, yet curiously costs the same amount of MP as Heal Level 4, making Heal Level 4 completely redundant once it is learned. Aura Level 4 has the same effect in other Shining Force games but costs more MP than other healing spells.

Despite its higher MP cost, Aura can easily be more MP-efficient than equivalent levels of Heal if three or more allies are targeted at once. However, few characters can learn Aura, and it is typically learned later in the game than the same levels of Heal, so Heal is usually more effective at restoring large amounts of HP to a single character. The enemies' A.I. tends to target those with Aura, so don't get too reckless and always protect the Aura user at all costs.
