Domingo is a magical creature that is a hidden playable character in the games Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention, Shining Force: Resurrection of Dark Dragon, Shining Force Gaiden and Shining Force CD.

Background[edit | edit source]

Domingo is a magical creature hatched from an egg. Domingo joins Max's Force after hatching.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Domingo's personality is that of the stereotypical social and intellectual elite. He feels no need for friends, so he openly expresses disdain for his companions and flaunts his knowledge so much that he comes across as a know-it-all. He always maintains polite etiquette, but his highbrow personality tends to repel most people. Despite the fact that he seemingly would prefer to socialize in more intellectual circles, he sticks with Max's group out of loyalty to the one who hatched him.

The alternate universe version of Domingo from Resurrection of the Dark Dragon is almost the complete opposite. He can only say "Domingo!" and change colors to show his mood.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Getting Domingo to Join[edit | edit source]

An egg is located in a suit of armor in Manarina's castle. In order to hatch the egg, the egg must be taken to Pao and incubated. After the egg is hatched, Domingo will join the Force at Level 1.

In Shining Force Gaiden and Shining Force CD, search the bushes in Battle 12(the nighttime ambush battle) to find him.

Using Domingo[edit | edit source]

Shining Force I[edit | edit source]

Domingo is easily one of the strongest characters in the game. He has high Health Points, high Defense, high MP, and high Agility. Domingo can fly, and is easily one of the strongest of the flyers. Domingo can easily pick off enemies with lvl.4 Freeze. He can be a replacement for Tao as a mage or an alternative to Anri. He, along with Anri, are the two most efficient spell casters, due to the efficiency of the Freeze spell. However, because Domingo has higher maximum MP, he is the stronger of the two. Due to Domingo's lack of promotion, when he first joins he will gain levels for a while as if promoted and ends up arguably the strongest spell caster overall. His spell Attack allows other party members to get stronger and attack harder, particularly useful in the case of Bleu or Adam.

Domingo lacks in physical attack, so if his MP ever runs dry, he will be forced to act purely in a defensive role. Despite his massive stat boasts as he levels, he begins to get less growth by the time most other Force members are beginning to see their own growth stats. Due to his overall strength as a Force Member, he very easily will steal XP from other Force members if not used sparingly. He has Desoul, which is an instant kill spell, but due to how unreliable it is, players may never need to use it.

Shining Force Gaiden[edit | edit source]

Domingo learns only offensive spells, including the first three levels of Blaze and Bolt. He is the only character in the game to learn Freeze level 4, though he will only learn it through extensive grinding. Besides being the only floating Mage, he gets exceptionally good HP, Attack, and Defense by Mage standards, and his MP is decent as well. Altogether he is the game's most offensively capable magic user.

In Shining Force CD, Domingo stands out a bit less. Though his HP becomes even more impressive as he approaches level 20, May gets Defense comparable to his, while Natasha trumps him for MP. However, he is still the only Mage to float or learn Freeze level 4, and in this game he has time to learn the spell even without grinding. He must at least be considered if you like offensive spellcasters.

Powers & Magic[edit | edit source]

Domingo can float over most terrain. He also learns the following spells:

  • Unlike in the original version, levels do not stack; therefore, if promoted early, a spell learned at level 12 unpromoted must be learned at level 12 promoted.
  • — indicates the character has already learned the spell.
  • An empty field means the character cannot learn up to that spell's level.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • In Book 1 headquarters, in active party
Domingo: "A wizard appears wherever he's needed. And so... here I am!"
  • When Domingo is incubated
Egg Holder: "It works! The egg's hatching! What is that thing?"
Domingo: "Thing indeed! How rude! I'm Domingo, at your service!"
  • In Book 3 headquarters, not in active party
Domingo: "Some call me egotistical, but did you know slander is one of the barometers to measure one's popularity."
  • In Book 3 headquarters, in active party
Domingo: "Did you know? The rise and fall of the tide is caused by lunar gravity."

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Domingo means Sunday in Spanish and Portuguese.
  • When you search the suit of armor to find Domingo's egg in Legacy of Great Intention, it says that you are searching the "monster." This is likely a translation error.
