Rohde is a construction worker from Iom, and is available as a playable Gladiator in the games Shining Force Gaiden II and Shining Force CD.

Background[edit | edit source]

Rohde was hired, along with the rest of the workers in his village, to help build Algam Fort. After the fort was completed, the entire village was to be destroyed to keep the fort's weakness a secret. After being saved by the Cypress army, Rohde decided to help defeat Iom.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Though little is certain about Rohde, his wild-eyed look and reluctance to tell even his saviors about Algam Fort's weakness suggests a moderate degree of lunacy. He seems to have become obsessed with his work to the extent that he values the fruits of his labors over almost everything else. Though clearly not incapable of normal interactions, one of his headquarters quotes suggests that he may prefer eavesdropping on others.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Aside from Gates having higher Defense, Rohde already has a lead over the other Gladiators in HP, Attack, and Defense when he joins, and his growths are good as well. His HP struggles at first, but takes off once he hits level 10, and his growths in every other stat are solid right from the start. Of the four Gladiators of Shining Force CD who can be used in more than one battle, Rohde consistently has the highest Attack, and his Defense is quite solid as well.

Rohde has only two weaknesses. First, like nearly all pre-promoted characters, he doesn't hold up well if late promotions are used. If you promote at level 15 or later, both Ruce and Jaha should surpass him. Second, the value of Gladiators in general is questionable in the USA version of Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya, since the overpowered level 3 spells means greater need for Wizards and characters with better reach than Gladiators.

When playing Shining Force CD with level 10 promotions, however, Rohde is unquestionably an excellent choice for the Force. Though you may want to train Ruce and Jaha for Book 4 instead, for Book 3 he is the most effective.

Powers & Magic[edit | edit source]

Rohde has no magic or special abilities.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • At the cliffs near Algam Fort
Rohde: "You've saved us. Our entire village would've been destroyed. We were hired to build Algam fort, but that was our undoing. We were to be destroyed to keep the fort's weaknesses a secret."
Sarah: "If that's true... Please help us. Tell us the fort's weaknesses."
Rohde: "I'm not sure if I should..."
  • Book 2 headquarters, in active party
Rohde:"To win on the battle field, one must find their enemies' weaknesses."
